President Serzh Sargsyan’ message to the special convention of Armenia’s Writers Union

I cordially salute participants of the special convention of Armenia’s Writers Union, which is convened to resolve a very important issue – to elect a new Chairman of the Union. I deeply regret that this was caused by the untimely and sudden demise of the Union’s years-long and distinguished Chairman Levon Ananian. The best tribute to those departed would be the carrying on with their mission.

Dear Friends,

It is no secret that the Armenian writer in all times has been the pioneer responding to the problems and concerns of the people. The voice of the Armenian writer has always been audible. The Writer is the society’s mind and conscious, and I believe this is as much honorary as it is compelling. Today, when you are going to make your choice, I have no doubt that each of you feels the significance and responsibility of the moment.

I am glad that the convention is all-Armenian in scope, representing writers from all segments of our nation – Armenia, Artsakh and Spyurk.

I hope that the convention will be conducted in the atmosphere of mutual respect and goodwill, that the elections will be fair and convincing. I wish the future Chairman of Armenia’s Writers Union constructive and efficient work for the benefit of our country, people, and the Armenian literature.
