Statements and messages of the President of RA
Address of the President of the Republic
Dear compatriots,
Esteemed colleagues and friends,
August 8 will be remembered in the history of our people and of the entire region as the day when the path to peace gained its clear and irreversible outline. The Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the United States of America signed a joint declaration, affirming that the conflicts of the past can and must be replaced with the ideas of mutual respect, good neighborliness, and joint development.
This step demonstrates that political will, faith, and vision can transform reality. It is founded on the fundamental principles of international law—unwavering respect for the sovereignty of states, territorial integrity, and equal rights.
The initial signing of the peace treaty is not only a diplomatic document but also a declaration of values—for the sake of the region’s security, stability, and prosperity. It is a message to our peoples and to future generations that peaceful coexistence is possible if we are guided by trust, mutual understanding, and the pursuit of common well-being.
Armenia is resolute in its commitment to continue building bridges of trust, restoring economic, cultural, and human ties, creating an environment where competition is replaced by cooperation, and confrontation by joint progress.
Today we are making a transition not only to a new political chapter but also to a new way of thinking. We are proving that peace is not merely a treaty, but a courageous choice—for the sake of life, for the sake of the future, for the sake of human dignity.
I want to express my gratitude to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, to the government, and to all individuals involved in the negotiation process, whose sense of responsibility, patience, and tireless work contributed to bringing this important undertaking to life. Their courage, determination, and political will played a crucial role in moving forward along the path to establishing peace.
I also extend my thanks to all those states, international partners, and individuals who, with their consistent and sincere efforts, supported this most important process. The road ahead will not be easy, but together we can walk it and make the idea of peace a reality.
