Congratulatory Message of President Vahagn Khachaturyan on the 35th Anniversary of the Adoption of the Declaration of Independence of Armenia

Dear citizens of the Republic of Armenia,

Thirty-five years ago, the course of our modern history was marked by a decisive event: the Supreme Council of the Armenian SSR adopted the Declaration of Independence. By that decision, after centuries of interruption, the idea of our statehood was restored, and the path toward independence began.

The Declaration was not merely a legal document. It was a symbol of national will, of common goals, and of a new future. It clarified our people’s aspiration to build an independent and sovereign state, the full realization of which came with the referendum of September 21, 1991.

Today, as we remember that historic day, we highlight the enduring strength and value of the Declaration. It serves as a fundamental program for the development and consolidation of our state, enshrining commitments to establish democracy, uphold the rule of law, protect human rights, strengthen the army, and modernize education and the economy.

Amid the multilayered and profound changes taking place in our country and around us today, it is more important than ever to emphasize the significance of true independence and sovereignty. Independence is not only a historical achievement, but also a vital necessity that shapes our statehood, ensures the free and dignified life of our people, and provides a solid foundation for our future. Independence is the result of our daily efforts, strategic choices, and responsibilities. It is a crucial path and choice that we must preserve, strengthen, and pass on to the next generations.
The Declaration also reminds us that independence is not a gift, but a daily responsibility: to strengthen state foundations, to build a just and prosperous society, and to pass it on to future generations.

Dear compatriots,
I congratulate you on the 35th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Armenia. May our state steadfastly walk the path of peace, security, and development.
