The newly appointed Ambassador of Australia presented her credentials to President Serzh Sargsyan

Today, the newly appointed Ambassador of Australia to the Republic of Armenia Margaret Twomey (residence in Moscow) presented her credentials to President Serzh Sargsyan.

The President of Armenia congratulated the Ambassador on her nomination and expressed hope that through her personal involvement new steps would be taken toward providing a more practical meaning to the bilateral relations.

Speaking on the prospects of the Armenian-Australian cooperation, the parties noted as a priority the importance of learning more about each other’s potential, of exchanging information and promoting contacts which would allow to identify the areas attractive for cooperation. The necessity of creating the corresponding legal framework was also underscored.

Serzh Sargsyan noted that the Armenian-Australian community is a strong link connecting the two countries. According to the Australian Ambassador, the Armenian community of Australia maintains its national identity, carries on the rich traditions of the Armenian culture and history, integrating at the same time deeply into the life of Australia and bringing their input to the development of the Australian society.

The two sides spoke also about the cooperation in the multilateral settings and noted with satisfaction efficient interaction of the two states in the international organizations. The President of Armenia hailed Australia’s balanced approach toward the regional issues.
