President Sargsyan noted with satisfaction that in recent years the Armenian-German relations have been developing at a renewed pace. The President of Armenia assessed as constructive his meeting with the Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel which took place in the framework of the recently held international security conference in Munich.

Serzh Sargsyan also noted with appreciation that in the area of development- oriented cooperation Germany is Armenia’s the second largest donor, as well as one of our largest trading partners. According to President Sargsyan, German businesses have already acquired a certain confidence toward the business climate in Armenia and it is not accidental that currently 94 enterprises with German capital are functioning in Armenia. In 2008 the commodity turnover between the two countries reached almost 350mln USD, while German investments totaled 250mln USD. Noting, that for Armenia these are pretty impressive figures, which testify to the high level of the bilateral dialogue and extensive legal field, the President of Armenia mentioned nevertheless that there is still much to be done.

According to Marcus Meckel, he is one of those members of the Budenstag who believe that the European Union should conduct a more active policy in the South Caucasus region. He said that in Munich he had the opportunity to listen to speech delivered by the President of Armenia and ask questions about the Armenian-Turkish dialogue. Today President of Armenia spoke again in detail about the developments in the process of normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations and presented Yerevan’s official position.

The two sides spoke also about the domestic political situation in Armenia.
