On the occasion of the 80th birthday of John Kirakossian, President Serzh Sargsyan sent a message

On the occasion of the 80th birthday of John Kirakossian, President Serzh Sargsyan sent a message.

The message states:

“Today, we are celebrating the 80th birthday of John Kirakossian, one of the most prominent sons of the Armenian nation, a distinguished state, political and public figure, a historian and diplomat.

He was one of the first students of the international studies in Armenia and he proved that even in the Soviet Union it was possible to develop and implement Armenia-based and Armenia-centered foreign policy in the context of the given time and given political moment. Today, it can be clearly stated that it was John Kirakossian, who made the first successful effort to scientifically support the issue of the international recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide and to include that issue in the Armenian foreign policy agenda.

John Kirakossian was a soldier of his nation, who had a vision of a commander and forethought of a strategist. He was a servant of his nation, who had master’s mind and compassion. He was an accomplished Minister of Foreign Affairs in a country which was not even subject of international law. Through his activities he became inextricable part of the modern Armenian history and its political developments.

Celebrating this jubilee, bowing to the memory of John Kirakossian, we remind ourselves and the next generations that nations and states become nations and states thanks to the devotees such as John Kirakossian.
