Opening remarks of President Serzh Sargsyan at the joint press conference with the President of Croatia

President Serzh Sargsyan – “Ladies and Gentlemen,

We have discussed with President Mesic the current stage and the prospects of the Armenian-Croatian relations in a constructive and appreciative atmosphere. We have also exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual interest.

Armenia attaches great importance to further development of her relations with Croatia in political, economic and cultural areas, as well as to the expansion of the legal field for cooperation. The parties singed the agreements on “Cooperation between the Governments of the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Croatia in the areas of culture, education, and science” and on “Avoidance of Double Taxation of Profits and Estate and Prevention of Tax Evasion”.

Taking into consideration the fact that Croatia is EU candidate state and Armenia is engaged in cooperation initiatives of the European structures, we agreed to consider the possibilities of cooperation in this framework, including European Neighborhood Policy and Eastern Partnership.

Based on not so remote experience of our two countries, together with the President of Croatia we arrived at the conclusion that regional conflicts must be resolved exclusively through peaceful negotiations, based on the principles of international law and norms.

We hope that delegation headed by the President of Croatia will have fruitful meetings in Yerevan which would be a good starter for elevating our relations to a new level.

I have accepted with great pleasure invitation of the President of Croatia to conduct official visit to Croatia, and I am confident that the visit will take place this year and will enhance further deepening of relations between our two countries”.
