The newly appointed Ambassador of Norway Knut Houg presented his credentials to President Serzh Sargsyan

Today, the newly appointed Ambassador of Norway Knut Houg (residence in Moscow) presented his credentials to President Serzh Sargsyan.

Congratulating the Ambassador on his nomination, President Sargsyan said that Armenia is interested in deepening and further developing relations with Norway both in bilateral as well as multilateral formats.

According to Serzh Sargsyan, the image of Norway for the Armenian people was also shaped by the noble mission of the great humanist, Fridtjof Nansen. He also said that relief and reconstruction assistance provided by the people of Norway after the devastating earthquake in Armenia in 1988 are well remembered and highly appreciated in our country. “There is the village of Norway in Armenia which serves as a constant reminder of that help and assistance,” the President of Armenia underlined.

In his turn, the Ambassador of Norway stated that his country too was interested in developing multifaceted relations with Armenia and that he was ready to undertake necessary steps in that direction.

President Sargsyan and Ambassador Houg stressed the importance of effective utilization of the potentials of the two countries, further development of political, economic and cultural relations, as well as the establishment of the necessary legal field for cooperation. The newly appointed Ambassador assured that he would do his best to advance relations between Armenia and Norway.

The parties exchanged also views on the regional issues. Ambassador Houg said that with regard to the NK peace process, Norway supports the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group and that durable and lasting peace can be achieved only through peaceful means and a balanced negotiation process.

President Sargsyan hailed Norway’s balanced position on the regional issues in various international structures.
