President Serzh Sargsyan sent a message to the President of the Republic of Turkey Abdullah Gul

The message states:

"Your Excellency,

I would like to send my regards to you and to the people of neighboring Turkey while traveling through the Turkish airspace.

Our initiative to normalize Armenian-Turkish relations is in the epicenter of attention of the international community. The moment is historic indeed and it is not just us but the entire world realizes that. The efforts of the countries involved in the region aimed at the improvement of bilateral relations are invaluable. I am certain that without their mediation it would’ve been hard to register a progress. At the same time I think that despite of friendly countries’ interest in a positive solution of the process they are unable to accomplish what our two peoples are able to achieve.

Mister President,

I think you’d agree that the main role to break the stereotypes that exist reciprocally between the people of Armenia and Turkey, to form the atmosphere of mutual confidence is meant for authorities. We can achieve the result only if there is a belief in our task, firmness and adherence to the principles. Otherwise, when action contradicts the word, it gives the birth to uncertainty and mistrust, that wide opens the doors for forces, which are against the process. We must realize that the time in this case does not contribute to the process but makes it meaningless.

If we succeeded so far in elevating our bilateral contacts to the level where the future of building of natural relations between our countries becomes much more visible and tangible then it is the moment to show determination, to make a big step forward, leaving stable and secure region for the future generations.

Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest esteem".
