Address by President Serzh Sargsyan on the 7th conference of the Armenian International Women’s Association

Dear sisters of Armenia and the Diaspora,

I am happy that the 7th conference of the Armenian International Women’s Association is held in the mother country of Armenia.

In the person of you, I cordially welcome all Armenian women. It is exactly Armenian women that have borne the responsibility for the honest and noble deed of preserving Armenian national identity throughout our entire history and have nurtured smart, well-bred and competitive generations. Being the ones who pass on Armenian self-consciousness from one generation to another, you protect your house against estrangement and alienation, firmly adhere to moral, spiritual and national values and are involved in addressing issues of nationwide importance.

As time passes, the role of Armenian women both in Armenia and the diaspora takes on a new meaning. The vital mission of mothers and housewives must in no way limit women’s engagement in public and economic life. Moreover, equal rights and opportunities of men and women should be protected to the maximum extent possible both at local and national, as well as at international and global levels. Women’s knowledge, wisdom, tolerance, patience and their overall level of participation in all spheres of life without exception, are among the guarantees of improving the world.

I am sure that this meeting will give you the best opportunity to highlight vital issues of nationwide importance and outline their solutions.

I wish the 7th conference of the Armenian International Women’s Association success and fruitful work for the benefit of Armenian spirit and in the interests of Armenians all over the world.
