President of the Republic Vahagn Khachaturyan and President of Georgia Mikheil Kavelashvili summarized the results of their meetings in Tbilisi with statements made to representatives of the mass media.
Statement by President Vahagn Khachaturyan:
“It is a great pleasure to once again be on the hospitable land of brotherly Georgia. I would like to once again express my gratitude for the warm hospitality extended to me and my delegation during this visit. I was pleased to meet You again following our friendly and constructive meeting held in Yerevan. Our meeting once again highlights the importance of ongoing strong, good-neighborly relations between the two countries.
For Armenia and the Armenian people, Armenia-Georgia relations based on centuries-old history, traditions, and mutual respect, hold special significance. The frequency of recent visits at high and top level and bilateral contacts clearly demonstrates the intensity of relations between Armenia and Georgia.
The close cooperation between our two states has brought us to a historic milestone, as we have elevated our cooperation to the level of a strategic partnership. Although it is no secret that our cooperation with Georgia has always been strategic in nature, it is now also formalized at the official level.
Today, my esteemed colleague and I had quite productive and substantive discussions. In my meeting with President Kavelashvili, we addressed bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors and the next steps aimed at the continued development of the strategic partnership between Armenia and Georgia.
The core of our discussions also included bilateral economic cooperation, as well as a wide range of issues related to transport, tourism, energy, business, investments, cultural, educational, and youth sectors.
I would like to note that Armenia is actively preparing to host the 17th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the Convention on Biological Diversity and the 8th Summit of the European Political Community in 2026. We look forward to the participation of the Georgian side.
In addition to bilateral agenda matters, we also discussed regional developments.
I referred to the results of the trilateral meeting held in Washington on August 8 and the economic opportunities that may arise from the unblocking of regional infrastructure. The process is fully aligned with the vision of the Government of Armenia’s “Crossroads of Peace” initiative.
I once again emphasized that Armenia’s priority is the institutionalization of peace and connectivity in the region, based on the fundamental principles of sovereignty, jurisdiction, equality, and reciprocity. We are confident that long-term peace and stability between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the full unblocking of transport and communication routes in the region, including through the “TRIPP” project, will transform the South Caucasus into an efficient transit and logistics hub, also contributing to regional and global connectivity.
The opening of regional communications will also provide Georgia with an opportunity to gain access to the Persian Gulf, while the possible operation of the Gyumri-Kars railway in conjunction with Georgian railways could become an important component of the Europe–Central Asia transit routes.
Ensuring lasting peace, stability, security, cooperation between states and peoples, and building a prosperous future is a shared responsibility of the international community.
In conclusion, I would like to once again thank You for the warm welcome extended to the Armenian delegation and reaffirm my commitment, as President of the Republic of Armenia, to continue efforts toward the further expansion and deepening of cooperation between Armenia and Georgia.”
